WHEREAS, Chieu Le was born in a small town in Southern Vietnam called "Thot Not" An Giang where Chieu's parents owned a sugar refinery; and
WHEREAS, in April 1975, Saigon fell to the Vietnamese communists while Chieu was in the fourth year of his law education, then in 1978 Chieu's family left Saigon, and traveled in a small boat to Malaysia; and
WHEREAS, in 1979 the Le family arrived in Clovis, New Mexico from the refugee camp in Malaysia where Chieu worked as a butcher in New Mexico for eight months and then they moved to San Jose, California in 1981; and
WHEREAS, in San Jose, California Chieu learned about the catering truck business and began to work as a cook on a truck; and
WHEREAS, in 1983 Chieu and his brother Henry Le opened Lee Sandwiches and later established a corporation, the Lee Brothers Food Services, Inc., which today has a fleet of over 390 Lee Catering trucks serving the Bay Area and Sacramento; and
WHEREAS, Chieu and his wife Yen are proud to be the parents of the three sons: Minh, Jimmy and Jeffrey; and
WHEREAS, in the year 2000 Chieu formed another corporation called LQNN dba: Saigon Gourmet/Lee Sandwiches on Bolsa Avenue in the Westminster, California where he has raised $20,000 for the 9-1-1 disaster relief fund, by printing 100,000 "God Bless America" stickers and asking for donations.
NOW, THEREFORE, I Margie L. Rice, Mayor of the City of Westminster on behalf of Mayor Pro Tem Kermit Marsh and City Council Members Frank G. Fry, Tony Lam, and Russell C. Paris, hereby commend
"Chieu Le"
for his patriotism and fund-raising for the September 11th victims and congratulate him on the success of his businesses.
